Mission Statement
Dedicated to serving the community by providing multifaceted
support through meaningful interactions with history and
material culture of Maryland African Americans.
The goal of the Docent Program is to provide significant
support to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African-American
History and Culture through its events and program. Docent
volunteers provide their time, talent and knowledge to the
docent program, exhibitions and collections, special events,
and other activities that serve the general public.
As one of Marylands leading cultural institutions,
docents will play an important role in communicating the
history of Maryland African Americans.
I stepped into this experience not knowing exactly
what to expect. I left with a sense of cultural fulfillment.
This has truly enlightened and enriched my awareness as
an African American. I cant wait to share the knowledge
that I attained with the visitors I will meet in the museum.

Becoming a docent has been an exceptional experience,
re-enforcing my heritage, and belief in greatness of people-my
people. I feel reverence, honor and perfection in Gods
building blocks, cemented with knowledge, wanting to seek
more and more, and sharing that knowledge with passion to
everyone.
