From Slave Ship to Harvard: Yarrow Mamout and the History of an African American Family
with James H. Johnston, Esq.

Author James H. Johnson uncovers the struggles and achievements of Yarrow Mamout, a Muslim from Guinea brought to Maryland in the 18th century on the slave ship Elijah. Mamout, who later gained his freedom, became a noted figure in Georgetown.
